Most pages capture cleanly, but the web is messy and some sites are harder than others. Here are the issues you’re most likely to run into and how to handle them.
A snapshot failed
A snapshot is marked failed only when the image itself couldn’t be captured. Common causes:
- The page wouldn’t load - a wrong or broken URL, or the site was down when we tried. Double-check the address opens in your own browser.
- The site timed out - very slow pages can exceed the capture window. This often resolves itself on the next scheduled attempt.
- A hard block - some sites aggressively block automated visits. See below.
If a page failed once, it’s often a temporary blip. Trigger a fresh snapshot manually, or wait for the next scheduled capture before worrying.
The page shows a login wall or “verify you’re human”
If a page sits behind a login, or a bot-check like Cloudflare intercepts the visit, the snapshot may show that challenge screen instead of the real page. URL Love It flags these so a challenge page isn’t mistaken for your actual content. There isn’t much to change on your side - it’s the target site’s protection - but monitoring a public version of the page (if one exists) usually works better.
The image is fine but some text is missing
Some sites let the picture through but block the underlying text. When that happens you’ll get the snapshot with a note that text couldn’t be fully read this time. Visual change detection still runs, so you’ll still be alerted if the page looks different - and URL Love It automatically retries reading the text on later captures. See Understanding snapshots.
A page keeps reporting changes that feel like noise
Rotating testimonials, cookie banners, live counters, and A/B tests can all trigger changes that don’t mean much. URL Love It filters a lot of this out, but if a particular page is noisy, dismissing the changes and raising your alert threshold both help - see How change detection works.
